Barry Sing With Us choir performed many of their popular songs and local girl singer Grace Hartrey performed several of her own songs including a poignant rendition of one dedicated in memory of her Grandmother. Barry Sing With Us choir member Mike Cain entertained the audience with his harmonica playing and African drums – foot tapping stuff! Vale People First band, led by Geoff Davies, thrilled everyone with their fun “Sing a Long” spot and their enthusiasm was catching! Some members of the audience even had a dance! A special performance was also given by Jo Fowler, conductor of Barry Sing With Us choir who played a number of popular tunes on the saxophone creating a real jazz atmosphere. The event ended with a fitting finale – audience and performers together sang “Simply the Best chosen by lead organiser Eileen Moore who lost her twin sister Renee to cancer last year. White balloons and messages were released in memory of loved ones completing a marvellous 2 hours of fun!
It was with enormous pleasure that I hosted this event. Many members of the Barry Tenovus Choir are survivors and/or have experience of the trauma of cancer. The choir are a fantastic support for each other and also send the message of hope to others. It was a wonderful afternoon that I was honoured to be part of!Councillor Fred Johnson - Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan

We were delighted to take part in this wonderful celebration of Eileen’s sister, Rene’s life. The choir, soloists and musicians were truly amazing. It was a delightful afternoon remembering those who have survived, been affected by or we’ve tragically lost to cancer. We hope the ‘Concert in the Park’ can become a regular event in the community calendar. Our sincere thanks to all the amazing volunteers who organised the afternoon and we very much look forward to next year’s concert.Local Ward Councillors
