Legendary Tae Kwon Do Master Achieves 2 Sporting Ambitions

Master Leon Shakespeare has completed 2 ambitions over his long and successful sporting career. Firstly in visiting the shrine inKoreawhere Tae Kwondo began and secondly in holding the 2012 Olympic Torch! Master Leon has been teaching Tae Kwondo throughout the Vale of Glamorgan since 1973 and has been very successful with his students all over the world. During the games in Korea in the 1980’s students came third in the Mu Do category which combines all the disciplines of Tae Kwondo in one competition. Other successes over the years have taken place in games held inBritain, Canada, Mexico, Switzerland and Europe including France and Portugal. Master Leon was also voted Sports Personality of the year (2005) by Vale of Glamorgan Sports Council Committee and was voted Coach of the Year (2006) for Wales. The group have also received funding over the years in support of training new and upcoming instructors from the Sports Council for Wales Castleland Community Centre Legendary Tae Kwon Do Master Achieves 2 Sporting Ambitions  In 2011 master Leon was also invited to appear on the popular Paul O’Grady show. Master Leon and students and their families were treated to an overnight stay in London, a tour of the studios and as part of a thank you for agreeing to take part, Paul O’Grady provided much needed new dobuck for all members, licences for 1 year and lockers for the local community centre where they train. Master Leon had wanted to hold the Olympic torch as he believes that sport is an important way of bringing people together not only from different countries but also within our own Tae Kwondo family inWales. Jane Hutt Assembly Member and Deputy Leader of Welsh Government who has been aware of Master Leon’s achievements working with young people kindly arranged for him to visit the Senyyd and hold the Olympic torch as part of this year’s ceremonies. Master Leon was honoured to be able to do this and thanks the Deputy Leader for her support. Master Leon still regularly attends and teaches Tae Kwondo at Castleland Community Centre and Cowbridge Leisure Centre at the young age of 74years!
