It is with deep sadness that we at the Drop In Centre announce the passing of Betty Mills, a long time resident of Thompson Street who died last week following illness. Aged 89 years Betty was a much loved resident and she will be sorely missed by her many friends and family. Betty was known locally as “Betty the ambulance” but in her lifetime she held a number of other professions. As a member of the women’s Land Army Betty learned to drive, this stood her well as she had her own milk round in her early days, was a delivery driver for an Auto Spares company and then spent many years as an ambulance driver until her retirement some years ago. During the past few years Betty became one of our volunteers helping out with community events including Fun Day where she ably manned the Bran Tub. Farewell and God Bless!
